    A student who has completed this course or has acquired equal knowledge will be able to

    Assessment criteria
    Assessment criteria - grade 1
    When the implementation type of the course is CONTACT, ONLINE or BLENDED it is required that the student is present during those teaching hours that are marked in the study schedule. If you are absent more than 25 %, your grade will be lowered by one. If you are absent more than 50 %, the course is failed.

    The student knows how to use the Spanish language in the most common every day and work life situations. He/She has mastered the basics of pronunciation, the most common language basics and partly also the course’s vocabulary. He/She knows some general characteristics of the language area and its everyday life and work culture, and he/she has acquainted him/herself with the diversity of the Spanish-speaking environment.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3
    The student knows how to use Spanish quite independently and naturally in the most common every day and work life situations. He/She has mastered the pronunciation, many language basics and how to apply what you learnt to different language situations. He/She knows the general characteristics of the language area and its everyday life and work culture, and he/she understands the diversity of the Spanish-speaking environment much better than before.

    The student knows how to use the Spanish language quite independently and naturally in different every day and work life situations. He/She has mastered the pronunciation, many language basics and he/she applies fearlessly what he/she has learnt to different language situations. He/She knows the general characteristics of the language area very well and its everyday life and work culture, and he/she understands and is able to promote the diversity of the Spanish-speaking environment.

    Teaching methods and instruction

    In period 4/2024, two contact classes per week 3+3h on Porvoo Campus.

    Contact classes are important for practicing pronunciation and discussion: a lot of pair and groups exercises are done in class. For each class there will be homework, because learning the vocabulary and grammar require a lot of repetition.

    The teacher will provide an English vocabulary for the book.

    Useful small talk & basic Spanish about ourselves. English is not spoken widely in the Spanish speaking world!

    Exam dates and re-exam possibilities

    Written exams

    There are two written exams. The exams are done in Moodle in class, they cannot be done outside the class.

    The first written exam is on Wednesday 24 April at 14.00. Units 7-9.

    The second written exam is on Friday 17 May at 11.00. Units 10-12.

    The written exams consists of vocabulary and grammar. The exams are assessed on the scale 0-5. The written exams can be redone twice in Exam; the first exam is available 29 April 2024 - 30 October 2024 and the second exam during 20 May 2024 - 31 December 2024.

    Learning assignments

    Video assignment Each student records a video where they present themselves in Spanish. The video is assessed on a scale 1-5 and it cannot be redone. The deadline for the video is on 24 May 2024.

    The classes take place twice a week in period 4, the course starts on the week 34.

    The classes are on Wednesdays and Fridays at 14-16.45 in class 2623.
