    Goals:
    * The students familiarizes himself with the different texts written in working life and can write for example an email and a message
    * The student can tell about himself, his own working history and skills
    * The student knows vocabulary related to working life and professions
    * The student can express his opinion
    * The student follows news and discussion about working life or other topical matter
    Starting level and linkage with other courses
    Staring point is the B1.1 level of the European framework of reference

    A student can participate the course when he/she has passed about 20 credits of Finnish at Haaga-Helia or elsewhere
    Contents
    The course handles the language used in working life. Speaking, writing, reading and listening are practiced during the course.

    * Agreeing and expressing one's opinion
    * Conditional case ending
    * Phrases and sayings used in spoken language
    * Information about professions
    * Student's study and working background
    * Reviewing the tenses
    * Well being at work
    * Information about recruitment process
    Assessment criteria
    Assessment criteria - grade 1
    Your knowledge of the language is satisfactory in view of the projected learning outcomes of the course. Your skills allow you to complete the given tasks and assignments with assistance. You need to develop how to apply your knowledge. In view of the projected learning outcomes, you have a basic knowledge of the language and you demonstrate a limited ability to apply your skills, but you have difficulty to manage without assistance.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3
    Your knowledge of the language is good in view of the projected learning outcomes of the course. Your skills allow you complete the given tasks and assignments independently. You are able to apply your knowledge in practical situations, considering the projected learning outcomes of the course. You can critique your own abilities and identify ways to improve. In view of the projected learning outcomes, you have a basic to good knowledge of the language and you demonstrate sufficient ability to apply your skills. You can perform independently, but you have some challenges in passing on your skills and knowledge to others. You have an interest in professional development.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    our knowledge of the language is excellent in view of the projected learning outcomes of the course. Your skills allow you to apply your knowledge in demanding situations, considering the projected learning outcomes of the course. You can independently find ways to develop your skills and to cope in spontaneous situations. In view of the projected learning outcomes, you have detailed and explicit knowledge in the language and you apply your skills with natural proficiency. You can perform independently and you are also able and actively willing to help others develop and pass on your skills. You have an attitude of continuous professional development.

    Learning assignments

    The teacher adds material and assignments to Moodle weekly. Every part of the course has some general information about what will be studied during that week. There's also a link that leads to material and exercises. These don't have to be returned to the teacher, these exercises are meant to help students learn and practice before doing the assignments that are to be returned. The course assignments vary: they can be about writing, video, listening, reading or grammar (for example introducing yourself by video, writing about your life, video CV, text message, e-mails, video about your opinion, phrases used in different situations etc.)

    Content scheduling

    All assignments are not available when the course starts. However, the teacher tries to be flexible about making topics and assignments available so students can do assignments when it suits them.

    All assignments have a deadline, and it's very important to stick to these deadlines. If you don't, the teacher thinks you have decided to leave the course early. So, if you have a problem and can't follow the schedules, please write the teacher and email.

    Further information

    The course will be graded 0 - 5.

    There's no final exam, the grade will be calculated based on assignments and active participation. Students have to do and submit all assignments in time. If you are late with the submission, you'll get less points.

    If needed, the teacher can have an online conversation or a meeting as an additional tool when grading students.
