Upon completion of this course the student will
• Understand and have practical knowledge of what the main EU institutions and how they work
• Be able to use key specific terminology used in the EU context correctly
• Have knowledge and understanding of some key EU policies (eg the climate policy, free movement, youth and education)
• Be familiar with and able to address confidently and professionally some key European and global issues (sustainability, work-life issues, diversity and culture) using the correct terms and phrases
• Master contemporary business communication guidelines and practices for professional English usage
Course contents
The course gives the students central knowledge of the institutions of the EU, its institutions, objectives and key policies, concepts and terminology. The students will gain guidelines for professional business and administrative English usage. The students will also learn terminology and style content to enhance their expression when addressing some key global issues confidently and professionally in English. The key topics to be covered include
1. The EU and its institutions and key concepts
2. Global issues
3. Business communication today
The student has a sufficient working knowledge of the basics of how the EU works and the basic terminology. The student is able to sufficiently address EU-related topics and global issues well enough to be understood and communicate in the context. The student is able to apply the basic guidelines for contemporary professional business communication in English.
The student has a good working knowledge of the basics of how the EU works and the basic terminology. The student is able to fluently address EU-related topics and global issues in the context. The student masters the key vocabulary and style well to address global issues and communicate professionally in English.
The student has an excellent practical and theoretical knowledge of how the EU works and masters a large terminology. The student is able to excellently and fluently address EU-related topics and global issues in the context. The student meets the style requirements for the professional register in an excellent manner to address global issues and communicate professionally and confidently in English.
