    Learning objectives
    Upon completion of the course, the student
    * has composed an effective resumé and a cover letter in English;
    * is able to pitch their strengths to a potential employer in a job interview situation;
    * is able to produce a coherent essay on a topic of professional importance;
    * is aware of the key characteristics of the business and organisational culture in Finland;
    * has familiarized with Haaga-Helia’s degree regulations and the educational environment at a university of applied sciences;
    * is able to use relevant literary and online sources and safeguard good scientific practices.

    In addition, the aim is to enhance students’ overall oral competence in professional contexts, as well as raise awareness of the techniques and tools that help to strengthen their proficiency.

    The target level by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR is B2 (or upper-intermediate).
    Starting level and linkage with other courses
    The course has no special requirements, other than the sufficient level (B1 or intermediate) of English skills (because the language of instructions and course administration will be English)

    Course assessment is based on:

    • active participation in contact sessions (75 % attendance requirement)
    • regular spoken and written assignments done in small groups in class
    • graded weekly assignments
    The course has two modes of completion: the pass/fail scale and the graded one. Those who demonstrate successful learning may choose to complete the course with a grade from 4 to 5.
