    Learning objectives
    The aim is that after the course, the student will be able to:
    - describe the role of data, and how business intelligence can support decision-making in a business context.
    - describe how a business can achieve a competitive advantage with processes and information systems
    - Identify the connection between business processes and the information systems
    - describe role of selected technology in a business context
    - explain the life cycle stages of the system, apply selected methods and compare different project models
    - describe sustainability perspectives and are able to assess the impact and significance of sustainable development in business solutions
    - describe employment opportunities and digital business career paths in the field
    Starting level and linkage with other courses
    This course is an introductory course to the ICT and Business profile. No prerequisites.
    Contents
    - Utilization of data in the company's operations by means of analytics
    - Business processes and the most common business systems
    - System life cycle phases and development projects and related models and methods
    - Topical technologies related to the topic

    - Key concepts and terminology related to each of the above topics, as well as selected current news
    - Sustainable development in the ICT sector
    - Overview of companies and job roles in the sector
    Assessment criteria
    Assessment criteria - grade 1
    Student:

    - can define data and information classification and structures
    - can explain the possibilities of applying analytics in a company
    - is able to model a simple process
    - recognizes key business systems
    - can list the stages of the life cycle of an information system
    - has superficial knowledge of a topical ICT theme of their choice
    - identify sustainable development perspectives in the ICT sector
    - identify companies and work roles in the field
    - identify terminology in the field.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3
    Student:
    - is able to explain the significance of information in business
    - is able to explain the stages and areas of application of analytics in decision-making
    - is able to describe a multi-stage and multi-level process
    - is able to describe the purpose of key business systems in the company's operations
    - is able to explain the contents of the life cycle stages of an information system
    - is familiar with a topical ICT theme of his/her choice
    - is able to describe sustainable development perspectives in the ICT sector
    - identifies companies and work roles in the field
    - explains terminology in the field.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    Student:
    - is able to explain the significance of information in knowledge management
    - is able to analyse simple dataset by means of analytics
    - is able to describe a multi-stage and multi-level process and the role of information systems as part of the process
    - is able to describe the connection between the most common integrated information systems and business management and development.
    - is able to explain the contents and working methods of the life cycle stages of an information system
    - is extensively familiar with a topical ICT theme of his/her choice
    - is able to describe the perspectives of sustainable development in the ICT sector
    - identifies companies and work roles in the field
    - can apply terminology in the field.
    Further information
    When the implementation type of the course is contact, online or blended it is required that the student is present during those teaching hours that are marked in the study schedule. If you are absent more than 25 %, your grade will be lowered by one. If you are absent more than 50 %, the course is failed.

    Teaching methods and instruction

    With this implementation, the course is carried out as a contact, i.e. face-to-face teaching and doing learning assignments and participating in class discussions. Instruction takes place in lectures and in the Moodle workspace, which includes e.g. course materials, the information about news and announcements and discussion forum.

    Working life connections

    The implementation deals with ICT (information and communication technology) and business from the point of view of working life. The implementation also uses guest lecturers directly from working life.

    Learning assignments

    The course has multiple learning assignments. The size of each and therefore value for the grade varies. Assignments, except quizzes and class assignments, are mandatory and must be completed successfully to pass the course. The learning assignments will be presented and discussed at the beginning of the course.

    Content scheduling

    The implementation starts on 2nd period of semester 2025. Duration is 8 weeks. A detailed schedule will be introduced in the Moodle.
