Have you ever wondered what makes something luxurious? From the ancient Egyptians to the present day, the concept of luxury has changed. But one thing remains the same. As fashion designer Carolina Herrera says, “Luxury will always be around, no matter what happens in the world”. This course will take you on a journey through the history of luxury to the contemporary understandings. You’ll explore the different factors that have shaped our understanding of luxury and learn why it’s so hard to define. By the end of the course, you’ll have a deep understanding of what luxury is. This knowledge is essential for anyone who wants to work in the luxury industry.

Approved: The student demonstrates a clear understanding of the evolvement of the luxury phenomenon, successfully distinguishing between perspectives. The student can name factors with luxury in history to the contemporary understanding. The student effectively describes the different luxury forms and identifies their main attributes. The student exhibits an ability to compare different types of luxury in contexts.
Failed: The student demonstrates a deficiency in defining luxury throughout history. The student cannot name the forces influencing the luxury concept. The student fails to recognize the different forms of luxury. The student encounters challenges in comprehending the diverse ranges of attributes specific to the various forms of luxury. The student cannot define luxury and its attributes in different contexts. A more precise and comprehensive understanding of luxury as a business concept is necessary.
