Learning objectives

The course is part of the Business Technologies Master's programme.
Upon completion of this virtual course or acquiring equivalent knowledge elsewhere, the student
- can recognize the importance of Knowledge Management (KM) and Information Management for the organization.
- can apply and understand KM processes, methods and theories and recognize KM as an organizational resource that is managed to support business development
- can identify and apply information and information management as a strategic tool in IT and business environments.

The course topics include study cases and practices.

Contents

- Knowledge Management (KM) and Knowledge Leadership concepts and terminology, frameworks, methods and theories.
- Describe the opportunities, benefits and challenges that KM can bring to an organisation and describe and practise the organisational impact of KM and knowledge leadership.
- Gain an understanding of how to use KM as an organisational resource and as a managed way of working, for example in development and innovation functions.
- Learn how to identify KM and leadership as part of professional competence and as part of growing organisational development.
- Content may change during implementation phase.

The assignments of the course also teach the skills needed in Master's studies, such as data mining, reading research articles, and critical writing, as well as a broad understanding of knowledge management and its themes.

Implementation methods, demonstration and Work&Study

The Virtual course is an independent study course of 5 course-credits.
The course is self-paced, with students working online individually or in groups. Active individual or group work will be a requirement for this course. Some course implementations may include online teaching sessions, but these typically require a student to be online no more than twice a month.

The studies utilise student-centred, research-oriented, and functional teaching methods. Guidance and feedback are provided through the Haaga-Helia UAS online learning environment.

Recognition of Learning. The Recognition of Learning tasks are to be completed by the student within the first two weeks, following the instructions provided in the virtual course at the beginning of the course. Recognition of Learning can be used to complete either part or all of the virtual course.

Assessment criteria - grade 1

The course assignments have been completed 40% successfully.

Assessment criteria - grade 3

The course assignments have been completed 70% successfully.

Assessment criteria - grade 5

The course assignments have been completed 90% successfully.

The assignments of the course also teach the skills needed in Master's studies, such as data mining, reading research articles, and critical writing, as well as a broad understanding of knowledge management and its themes.

When the implementation type of the course is contact, online or blended it is required that the student is present during those teaching hours that are marked in the study schedule. If you are absent more than 25%, your grade will be lowered by one. If you are absent more than 50%, the course is failed.
