Learning objectives

After having completed this course, the student:
• has knowledge of the main legal sources of international business;
• is able to identify different contract types used in international business transactions and is familiar with their core legal content;
• is able to communicate with correct legal terminology in international business transactions;
• is able to identify and apply basic legal contractual terms in simple practical situations and to assess basic contractual risks;
• has knowledge on the essential IPRs used in the business contract environment
and the core data protection rules; and
• is familiar with different methods applied in solving contractual disputes.

It is strongly recommended that student has completed the International Business Law course prior to this course.

Implementation methods, demonstration and Work&Study

RPL - recognition of prior learning

Student can demonstrate the level of their prior learning. This must be completed in the beginning of the course. Contact the responsible teacher of the course for more information. The assessment is based on the demonstration by the student of their competence to meet the learning criteria and their knowledge on course content. Assessment criteria - grade 1

When the implementation type of the course is CONTACT, ONLINE or BLENDED it is required that the student is present during those teaching hours that are marked in the study schedule. If you are absent more than 25 %, your grade will be lowered by one. If you are absent more than 50 %, the course is failed.

Is able to identify main legal sources of international business and the core features of different contract types, data protection rules and IPRs. Recognizes main terminology and contractual terms used in international business transactions as well as basic contractual risks.

Assessment criteria - grade 3

Has knowledge of the main legal sources of international business. Is able to identify different contract types used in international business transactions and has basic knowledge of the core features of different contract types and data protection rules as well as essential IPRs used in the business contract environment. Has knowledge of main terminology and is able to apply basic contractual terms in simple practical situations. Recognizes how basic contractual risks can be limited.

Assessment criteria - grade 5

Has a good understanding on the main legal sources of international business and is capable of analyzing and limiting basic contractual risks relevant to international business transactions. Is able to assess and apply core contractual terms in typical situations in international business contracts. Has good knowledge on IPRs and data protection rules relevant to business activities.
