Teaching methods and instruction

The learning goals of this module can be reached in the following ways:

Attending lectures in Zoom and in class and completing the related assignments as full-time studies

Assessing one’s own learning is a compulsory part of the module

Working life connections

Development work of co-operating with students’ place of employment or other company/organization operating in the business to meet the learning objectives.

Internationality

The course is conducted in HOTEM-programmes with a mix of international students and exchange students. International library databases are utilized and where possible international guest lecturers are invited.

Learning assignments

The course has three mandatory assignments:

1) Ideation and innovation method presentation in groups (pass/fail), deadline Thu 31st of October, presentations 1st of Nov

2) Creating Food Tourism routes/trails for Hungry for Finland in groups (70% of the grade), the final deadline 14th of Dec, it includes also other minor deadlines:
• Research plan 4th of Nov at 11.00
• Theoretical framework 8th of Nov at 13.00
• Preliminary food tourism route 25th of Nov at 14.00
• Draft version of the whole report 29th of Nov at 11.00

3) Individual exam (30% of the grade), Exam in the Moodle, Zoom, on 2nd of Dec at 11-12.00

In addition, Zoom sessions and classroom teaching include different kind of activities and tasks which will not be assessed but has deadlines. Also some voluntary homework is given.

Assessment methods

Successful completion of the module is evaluated on a scale of 1 to 5. The assessment criteria is presented on a scale 1 - 3 - 5.

Grade 1
Student is able to search for sources of information needed for development and research. She/he can write a research and development plan. Student identifies different research methods and ethical issues related to research activities.

Grade 3
Student is able to choose and use suitable methods for obtaining research material and working life information. She/he can analyze data material and justify his / her choices. Student is able to describe one's own research process and concrete development proposals.

Grade 5
Student can critically evaluate the reliability of data, analyzes and research. She/he apply ethical principles in his/her research and development work. Student is able to evaluate development proposals and their implementation in working life.
