Implementation methods, demonstration and Work&Study
The course consists of three compulsory meetings (2 hours) at the campus and at least of four one-to-one meetings with a mentor (4 x 1,5 h). The format of the bilateral meetings (face-to-face/online) will be agreed between the student and the mentor. Meetings with the mentor should be at least once a month, but may be more if the mentor is willing.
Before the start of the course, the student accepted for the period will receive a questionnaire by email. The student can fill in preferences about the mentor's degree and in which field the mentor is currently working. The course organiser will then try to find the best possible mentor for the student.
The student and the mentor will meet each other at the first face-to-face meeting for the first time. Attendance is therefore essential. If the student is unable to attend the other subsequent on-site meetings, there will be written assignments to make up for the absence.
Intro
One credit point is awarded for the course completed. The benefit of the course comes to the student in the form of a personal mentoring relationship and expanded professional networks. Participation in the course does not automatically promise an internship or a new job, but it does open up new paths to get closer to professional goals.
Students are responsible for setting their own goals and learning in a mentoring relationship. With a mentor, you can look at your goals realistically and strive to achieve them as well as possible.
Materials
Material is found in Moodle.
Teaching methods and instruction
The mentoring programme aims at the professional growth and the strengthening of professional relationships of the student (mentee).
The student is assigned a personal Haaga-Helia alumna/alumnus as a mentor who guides and supports the mentee in goals. Mentoring is about learning together, sharing experiences and knowledge through interaction.
The student has to define own objectives for mentoring. The objectives may be related to career planning, finding a job or work placement, a change of industry, employment goals abroad, certain challenges in the final stage of studies or working life, learning about the Finnish working culture or a particular industry, self-development or deepening expertise.
The mentoring programme consists of one-to-one mentoring meetings between mentor and mentee, joint group meetings and self-study materials in Moodle. In the kick off meeting, the objectives and ground rules of mentoring are discussed, a mentoring agreement is drawn up and interpersonal skills are developed. We also network with each other as a group in the programme.
NOTE! This course is part of all Haaga-Helia Bachelor's degrees and students can participate in any implementation. Master students can enrol, but the credits are not included in the degree.
Working life connections
The course is implemented in a work-oriented manner in cooperation with Haaga-Helia's alum, who act as mentors in the program.
Exam dates and re-exam possibilities
The compulsory pre-registration questionnaire will be sent by email no later than Monday 26.5. It must be answered by Sunday 1.6. Late registration is not possible.
There is no exam included in the implementation.
Internationality
For example, if the student wants to move abroad to work, a mentor can be found in the country concerned. However, a mentor living abroad cannot be guaranteed.
Learning assignments
After acceptance to the course, you will receive a questionnaire, which is a prerequisite for participation. Mentoring pairs will be formed on the basis of the questionnaire.
During the course, you will return a mentoring agreement and a learning diary in the form of a short report.
