Implementation methods, demonstration and Work&Study

The course consists of three compulsory meetings (2 hours) at the campus and at least of four one-to-one meetings with a mentor (4 x 1,5 h). The format of the bilateral meetings (face-to-face/online) will be agreed between the student and the mentor. Meetings with the mentor should be at least once a month, but may be more if the mentor is willing.

Before the course begins, students accepted for the program will receive an email containing a link to a questionnaire, which they will fill out indicating their preferred mentor's degree, their preferred field of work, and their own goals. The course organizer will try to find a mentor from among the alumni.

If the student has their own professional role model (e.g., at work, in the media, on LinkedIn), they can ask them to join the program.

The student and the mentor will meet each other at the first group meeting for the first time. Attendance is therefore essential. Students may be absent from one group meeting; in such cases, they must compensate for their absence by completing written assignments.

Intro

One credit point is awarded for the course completed. The benefit of the course comes to the student in the form of a personal mentoring relationship and expanded professional networks. Participation in the course does not automatically promise an internship or a new job, but it does open up new paths to get closer to professional goals.

Students are responsible for setting their own goals and learning in a mentoring relationship. With a mentor, you can look at your goals realistically and strive to achieve them as well as possible.

Teaching methods and instruction

The mentoring program is a developmental process between the mentee (Haaga-Helia student) and the mentor (alumni). Mentoring is about learning together, sharing experiences and knowledge through interaction. The aim is to support the student's professional growth, graduation and employment. The individual goals of the mentoring program arise from the personal needs of the mentee.

The mentoring program consists of two-way mentoring meetings between the mentor and the mentee, as well as joint group meetings and self-study materials in Moodle. The content of mentoring meetings can be related to, for example, career planning, challenges in working life, challenges in the final stages of study, self-development or deepening expertise. The initial group meeting reviews the objectives and rules of the mentoring process, draws up a mentoring agreement, shares experiences of the mentoring process and develops interaction skills.

This course is open to any degree student regardless of campus or degree programme. Master student will not gain study credits but are eligible to join.

The course is implemented in a work-oriented manner in cooperation with Haaga-Helia's alumni, who act as mentors in the program.
