Completion alternatives

The alternative implementation of the Spanish Areal 2 course SPA2PO202 consists of two parts.

1) language studies: written and oral 60 %
2) Latin-American culture and society studies 40 %

1 language studies, 60 %:

a) written part, 30 %, book and exam:

The student studies the units 5-8 of the book Aula Internacional 1 and does all the exercises related to these units. The exercises are delivered by e-mail to the teacher before the written exam. The exercises are assessed on a scale 1-5. They cannot be redone or corrected.
The book’s units include the following grammar contents, it is recommendable to search for video tutorials or other grammar sources to support learning:
- expressing and asking likes and dislikes (5)
- verbs gustar/encantar/interesar + the dative pronoun (5)
- description of persons with adjectives: character and physical appearance (5)
- possessive adjectives (5)
- weekdays, parts of the day (6)
- telling and asking the time (6)
- expressing time and frequency with adverbs (6)
- reflexive verbs (6)
- conjugation of irregular verbs in present tense (6)
- use of traer* and poner* in a restaurant / bar (7)
- reflexive passive (7)
- adverbs of quantity (8)
- asking and giving directions (8)
- prepositions and adverbs of place (8)

When ready, the student does an exam where s/he demonstrates his/her competences in the vocabulary and grammar of these units. The written exam is assessed on a scale 1-5 and can be redone twice within six months.
b) oral part, 30 %, independent practice and exam:

The students practices independently with the help of the book’s audio material (available in the Internet: campus.difusion.com) the pronunciation of the vocabulary and fluent reading of the texts of the book’s units and topics. It is recommendable that s/he searches a skilled Spanish-speaking person to practice with. In addition, video tutorials for pronunciation can be of use.
When ready, the student does an oral exam with the teacher. In this exam, the student has to be able to discuss about the following topics (units 5-8):
family members, description of persons, hobbies, expressing liking and disliking, weekdays, weekly program, time, telling the opening hours and timetables, basic food, eating and waiting in a restaurant/bar, telling about diets and different cuisines, describing districts, towns and cities, giving and asking instructions how to get to a place.
The oral exam can be redone twice within six months.

2 Latin-American culture and society, 40 %, Power Point presentation:

The student chooses one of the Spanish speaking Latin-American countries and presents it with a Power Point presentation in English or Finnish. The presentation’s estimated time is about 20 minutes. The presentation must include information of the chosen country from six different topics. These topics and more precise instructions are written in the Power Point document Latin American Country Presentation. The presentation is assessed on a scale 1-5 with emphasis on the mastering of the topics, diversity of the content and the pronunciation of the Spanish names. The presentation cannot be redone.
