Descriptions of the implementation methods can be found on Haaga-Helia’s website: https://www.haaga-helia.fi/en/implementation-types

You can complete the course by demonstrating your competence, even if there are no DEMO implementations available. More information about recognition of prior learning is available on Haaga-Helia’s website: https://www.haaga-helia.fi/en/career-planning/recognition-learning

The demonstration is done by completing a written exam and proving the required oral language skills, for example, in the form of a video.

More information is available from the course’s responsible teacher.

Intro

Welcome to continue studying Spanish! You will deepen your knowledge of what you have learnt in the Spanish 1 course. You will learn how to discuss your own education and work experience and how to handle the most common work life situations. Together with the other students, you will improve your argumentation skills and get to know digital communication in Spanish. You also will develop further cultural and intercultural skills.

Materials

Buenas Migas 1 -green cover- (Katriina Kurki; Olli-Pekka Lindgren; Alberto Miranda Cañellas; Juan Rafols; Hanna Lahti (kuv.) Otava 2022) Units 7–12. + additional material provided by the teacher.

Teaching methods and instruction

Contact course in one period, twice a week.
On Wednesdays at the Porvoo campus from 14:00 to 16:45 and on Fridays remotely from 11:00 to 13:45. Please note, however, that the course final exam is on Friday, March13 at 11:00 in a classroom at the Porvoo campus (it is a paper-based exam, not remote and not on a computer).

Contact classes are important for practicing pronunciation and discussion: a lot of pair and groups exercises are done in class. For each class there will be homework, because learning the vocabulary and grammar require a lot of repetition.

Working life connections

In this course, students will learn to navigate everyday situations such as going to a restaurant, shopping, exploring different types of stores or commercial establishments, placing orders and asking for prices, finding their way on the streets, and acquiring basic vocabulary for a visit to the doctor.

Exam dates and re-exam possibilities

Final written exam on Friday, Month day in classroom PC/xxxx at 11:00. The exam will be paper-based in the classroom (not remote and not on a computer).
Before the final exam, students must create and submit to the teacher a mandatory video in which they present a selection of situations studied in the course. They will receive a production guide beforehand. This video is an important part of the final assessment.

Internationality

This course is not only designed for students to learn a new language, but also to understand and navigate diverse cultural contexts in the Spanish-speaking world. To achieve this:
- Students will learn about the customs, traditions, ways of life, and perspectives of different Spanish-speaking countries.
- They will develop the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from other countries.
- The course includes texts, videos, activities, and exercises that reflect the diversity of Spanish-speaking countries.

Completion alternatives

Demonstration (of earlier skills and knowledge in the course content). More information from responsible teacher Maria Ruohtula.

Learning assignments

Planned activities and exercises that allow students to practice and apply the linguistic and cultural skills of the course, including in-class tasks, grammar and vocabulary exercises, analysis of vocabulary in the texts from our workbook Buenas Migas 1, the submission of a mandatory video—near the end of the course—demonstrating what they have learned during the teaching process, and other activities that reinforce learning and continuous progress.
