Implementation methods, demonstration and Work&Study

This course may be completed by either: Working while you are working in a company or a project from a company and work as team at the school.

Materials

Student needs to utilize the following processes and approaches:

-User-Centered Design (UCD) to come up with a proper concept
-Semi-functional prototyping with proven iterative design and development phases
-Evaluation of end-user/customer/other stakeholder experience and value
-Marketing material to justify efficient productivity of the proposed concept

Student may freely select relevant reference literature/materials applicable to their project topic. Additional material will be provided by the lecturer throughout the entire project course.

Teaching methods and instruction

DIGITAL SERVICE PROJECT is a hands-on project course (10 ECTS). We have common status meetings once a week (on Wednesdays), where you will present progress of your project work, discuss next steps, and have an opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance. In addition, student groups and the mentor have separate facilitation meetings on a need basis. Students ask for a meeting time slot from the mentor on Fridays between 11:00AM-1:45PM, either on Pasila Campus or in Teams/Zoom (to be agreed separately).

Working life connections

Real life digital service development project will be conducted during the course.

Exam dates and re-exam possibilities

There is no exam in this implementation.

Internationality

Students are working in multi-cultural teams. International literature and other reference materials and cases will be used on the course.

Completion alternatives

This course may be completed by either:
a) Working as part of a project team at school (this implementation)
b) Working in a company or in a company project

Learning assignments

Real life digital service development project will be conducted during the course. Assignments are described in detail in Moodle and listed in the below schedule.

Assessment methods

This course will be assessed based on the group project work. Each group member is expected to make an equal contribution to the project. All assignments need to be completed for a passing grade. Self-evaluation is required for a passing grade.

The course will be assessed with the grade scale from 1 to 5. 0 is failed.
Grade 5 - Student demonstrates that he/she is master with the process and come up with a new and innovative concept. Student has followed digital service design and development methodology, such as User-Centered Design (UCD). A semi-functional prototype has been designed, implemented, and validated. Customer specifically shows high satisfaction with the outcome.
Grade 3 - Student comes up with a new concept and has followed digital service design and development methodology, such as User-Centered Design (UCD), including user studies and data analysis, to some extent only. Semi-functional prototype has been validated and shared with customer. Customer specifically shows satisfaction with the outcome.
Grade 1 - Student comes up with a new concept but has not followed any digital service design and development methodology. However, semi-functional prototype is validated and shared with customer.

The final grade consists of the following parts:
-Team progress throughout the entire project, incl. document submissions on time at each phase - Note: All assignments need to be completed for a passing grade.
-Final presentation (50% of the grade)
-Final report (50% of the grade)
-Self and peer evaluation (impact max +/- 1 grade) - Note: It might be that not all group members receive the same grade for their project work.
