Teaching methods and instruction
The goal of the course is to help the student to analyze one’s own coaching and facilitation skills and development areas. The course offers basics of coaching as an outlook on work and as an interaction skill, and, relevance of facilitation and utilization as a tool for decision-making, co-creation and communal learning. Learning takes place in workshops, as independent studies and team work. The course includes coaching workshops, peer-coaching sessions and facilitation exercises. The course includes compulsory assessment of one’s own learning.
Working life connections
The studies and learning assignment seek to mirror everyday business in corporations and other organizations. Students apply their learning within their current work environment.
Internationality
Internationality is present through cases, books, articles and assignments. Student backgrounds and work environments bring an international perspective to the course.
Completion alternatives
If you have acquired the required competence in previous work tasks, recreational activities or on another course, you can show your competence via a demonstration and thus progress faster through your studies. More information and instructions for recognizing and validating prior learning (RPL) are available at Peppi.
Learning assignments
We have three assignments, which you are expected to return by the deadlines. In order to attend the course, please return the pre-assignment on August 22nd 2022 at the latest. In order to pass the course, all of the assignments have to receive passed grade (i.e., 1-5). Assignments are as follows:

o Make a short video (2-3 mins) in which you give answers to the following questions and reflect:
1) Who are you? Where do you come from? What do you do for living?
2) What do you understand by coaching? What do you understand by facilitation?
3) What kind of experience do you have in coaching? After answering this question, read the article Who’s got the monkey. What kind of thoughts did the article evoke in you? What kind of issues mentioned in the article you can identify in your daily (working) life?
4) What kind of experience do you have in facilitation? After answering this question, read the article What do we mean by facilitation. What kind of thoughts did the article evoke in you? What kind of issues mentioned in the article you can identify in your work?
5) What are you going to learn in this course? What kind of new skills do you expect to have after the course?
o Make sure that the teacher has access to your video directly from Moodle (i.e., that your video does NOT require password etc.). Drop your video link in Moodle drop box, do not try to drop the video as it.
o Grading with scale 0-5, and the grade is 20 % of the course grade.
o Grading criteria: Clarity of your video, answers to the questions and reflective approach in questions 2-5.
• Assignment 2 (coaching), 40 % of the course grade, return on 12.9.2022 at 23:55 at the latest. The goal of the assignment is to coach another student in three separate sessions and analyze own coaching skills. Separate instructions will be given on August 23rd.
