Intro

Hei ja tervetuloa! Welcome to continue your journey to Finnish language and culture! Now it is time to learn about traveling, health and hobbies and tell about the past. By actively participating in classes and studying at home you will create a solid basis for further Finnish studies.

Materials

Gehring, Sonja & Heinzmann, Sanni: Uudistettu Suomen mestari 2. Finn Lectura. Helsinki. Chapters 1-4. (2022)
Note! The renewed version of Suomen mestari 2 book (2022) will be used on the course.

Teaching methods and instruction

The course includes both 1) contact hours and 2) independent studies:
1) Oral and written exercises individually and in pairs, group work, tests
2) Homework and preparation for lessons, tests and assignments.

Active self-study between the lessons is expected and part of the course.

Emphasis will be given to all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The class will provide students the opportunity to practice new vocabulary and grammatical structures through in-class discussion of assigned activities and readings.

Contact hours: oral and written exercises individually and in pairs, group work, learning games.
Independent studies: homework and preparation for lessons, tests and assignments, online material.
This course develops student’s ability to understand and use Finnish language further and activates the language skills learned earlier. The students are encouraged and able to use Finnish in everyday situations.

This course is a part of all Haaga-Helia's Bachelor's degrees and the student can participate in any implementation. This implementation is specifically aimed at students of the Business Information Technology degree

Working life connections

Learning Finnish language and culture will give students skills and readiness to work in a Finnish speaking working environment.

Exam dates and re-exam possibilities

There will be two supervised assignments (mid-term test and final test), and they will be organized in the middle of the course and end of the course. The students will be informed about the days during the course.

The individual supervised assignments can not be re-taken. However, it is possible to take a test that covers the material of the both supervised assignments after the course.

Internationality

International students. Differences between Finnish and other cultures.

The course is evaluated on a scale from 1 to 5
