Schedule
The lessons start at the beginning of the semester and continue during two periods of the semester. The following topics are addressed:
teaching weeks 1-4 written communication for international trade and commerce
teaching weeks 5-8 English for formal meetings and events
teaching weeks 9-12 English for administrative purposes
teaching weeks 13-16 Communication and cultural knowledge including plans for an international collaboration of 3 online sessions with a Haaga-Helia partner university (TBC)
Implementation methods, demonstration and Work&Study
CONTACT' for contact courses. In contact courses the teacher and the student are physically in the same location on campus, usually at a specifically scheduled time.
'BLENDED' for blended courses. In blended courses contact teaching (daytime, in the evening or intensively) is combined with online studies independently and/or in cooperation with other students.
'ONLINE' for online courses. In online courses the teacher and the student are connected only through information and communications technology. The implementation includes scheduled online studies (e.g. lectures or group work).
'VIRTUAL' for virtual courses. In virtual courses the student studies independently in a virtual learning environment. Students can communicate with other students and the teacher through a virtual learning environment. Students can complete assignments and possible exams at a time that suits them best.
'EVENING' for evening courses where all meetings start after 4 pm.

Intro
Do you wish to advance your professional English competence? This course deepens your industry-related collaboration and managerial skills and helps you to become a professional in intercultural context. You will gain a competitive advantage in the future job market. You will be able to convey shades of meaning more precisely with a wider range of vocabulary needed in a variety of business environments.

Teaching methods and instruction
Weekly contact lessons during the semester. Some contact lessons will be replaced by remote lessons on Zoom. Active participation in the lessons is required in principle. Learning Assignments, graded, (both individual and team Assignments) to be returned by their due dates. Please see more information on Moodle /Implementation Plan.
Working life connections
Authentic materials and real/realistic learning tasks supporting the students' adoption of contemporary communicative practices.
Exam dates and re-exam possibilities
Written exam in the last contact teaching week at Pasila campus. (more information on Moodle).
Two renewals in compliance with the Haaga-Helia regulations.
Internationality
The students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the Haaga-Helia partner universities in Europe and globally. International collaboration of 3 online sessions with a Haaga-Helia partner university (TBC) is planned for the Autumn of 2025.
Completion alternatives
The students may, not later than a week before the start of the course, present a written plan/proposal to the Lecturer on an alternative way to complete the course. The Lecturer decides on granting the student an alternative study plan (DEMO). The DEMO consists of an exam on the specific topics and content addressed on the course.
