Intro

A sustainable organization takes into account the economic, social and environmental impacts of its activities and decisions in its decision-making. This responsibility is also required by stakeholders, and failure to do so can lead to a loss of stakeholder trust and a crisis that can take a long time to recover from.

How to identify stakeholders' expectations? How to identify, anticipate, prepare and respond to crises and manage reputation responsibly? All these questions will be answered in this modularly structured course, where, after the theoretical part, you will apply what you have learned by analyzing a current topic or a selected organization, either independently or with a group.

Materials

Learning materials are made available in course Moodle. In addition, for assignments students must independently search for information about their chosen organizations / industries when relevant.

Teaching methods and instruction

The course consists of workshop-style classroom teaching and independent online work.

Learning takes place in a modular way, with each theoretical section followed by an analysis of a current case or selected organization from the perspective of the theme. Modules are

1. Introduction
2. Responsibility and sustainability
3. Stakeholder management
4 .Reputation and Trust
5. Crisis Communication and Leadership
6. Preparation and planning

For each module there is an introductory lecture in Pasila followed by individual assignment / exam where student applies modular theme to their chosen organization / brand.

Some of the assignments are done in groups during classroom teaching, in which case independent workload is smaller.

At the end of the course, if feasible, a simulation-type exercise is organized, where participants can test what they have learned in practice.

Working life connections

Current cases and/or cases are discussed and analyzed and in assignments, students are encouraged to analyse cases relevant to own work / industry. Possibly guest lecturers/ visits.

Exam dates and re-exam possibilities

No re-exam is available for the course.

The course grade is based on the points accrued from the exams and assignments returned by the final DL, according to the evaluation criteria. After this, possible supplementing or improving the grade takes place in accordance with the degree regulations.

Internationality

Assignments and materials are international by default. Co-operation with Seville University in Spain. Details to be confirmed later.

Completion alternatives

Detailed instructions and pre-requisites for RPL process will be shared in the course kick off.

As a principle, if students have acquired the required competence in previous work tasks, recreational activities or on another course, they can present their competence via a demonstration. The demonstration must be agreed with the course teacher. More information and instructions for recognizing and validating prior learning (RPL) are available at
