    Learning objectives
    After having completed this course or attained an equivalent competence level, the student:
    - Knows how to find relevant information as well as sources and critically assess the trustworthiness of information
    - Knows how to analytically describe the research process in the appropriate academic style and correctly refer to sources
    - Knows how to use suitable methods for the collection and analysis of data concerning working life
    - Knows how to justify one’s choices and make concrete and actionable development proposals
    - Knows how to apply ethical principles throughout the research and development process
    Assessment criteria
    Assessment criteria - grade 1
    Is able to find sources necessary for development and research work. Is able to make a research and development plan. Recognizes different research methods and ethical questions related to research work.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3
    Is able to choose and apply suitable methods for obtaining working life information. Can analyze information and data, and justify one’s choices. Can describe the research process and concrete development proposals.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    Is able to critically assess the reliability of information, analyses and research. Can apply ethical principles throughout one’s research and development work. Is able to assess development proposals and their implementation in working life.

    The learning goals of this module can be reached in the following ways:

    Attending lectures in Zoom and in class and completing the related assignments as full-time studies

    Assessing one’s own learning is a compulsory part of the module

    The course is conducted in HOTEM-programmes with a mix of international students and exchange students. International library databases are utilized and where possible international guest lecturers are invited.

    Learning assignments

    The course has three mandatory assignments: 1) Ideation and innovation method presentation in groups (pass/fail), deadline Fri 27th of October, presentations 31st of Oct 2) Mini research project! The future of Finnish food tourism comissioned by Hungry for Finland project in groups (Interviews or quantitative survey with Webropol) The final deadline 12th of Dec, it includes also other minor deadlines: • Research plan 2nd of Nov at 8.15 • Theoretical framework for the research 9th of Nov at 8.15 • Research methods written xxxx 23rd of Nov at 8.15 - Results written 5th of Dec • Draft version of the whole report 7th of Dec at 8.15 3) Individual exam (30% of the grade), Exam in the Moodle, Zoom, on 5th of Dec at 8.15-9.15. In addition, Zoom sessions and classroom teaching include different kind of activities and tasks which will not be assessed but has deadlines. Also some voluntary homework is given.

    Successful completion of the module is evaluated on a scale of 1 to 5. The assessment criteria is presented on a scale 1 - 3 - 5.

    Grade 1
    Student is able to search for sources of information needed for development and research. She/he can write a research and development plan. Student identifies different research methods and ethical issues related to research activities.

    Grade 3
    Student is able to choose and use suitable methods for obtaining research material and working life information. She/he can analyze data material and justify his / her choices. Student is able to describe one's own research process and concrete development proposals.

    Grade 5
    Student can critically evaluate the reliability of data, analyzes and research. She/he apply ethical principles in his/her research and development work. Student is able to evaluate development proposals and their implementation in working life.
