Schedule

The tutoring study course lasts 1.5 academic years. Autumn is used for training and teaming
up with the tutor group, and spring and the following autumn for tutoring. Each Head Tutor
commits to their duties and for being an active Head Tutor for the entire duration.

Training organized by Helga, tutor team meetings, practical peer guidance, small group activities, degree information sessions as needed, learning diary (report).

Intro

Is tutoring already familiar to you and would you like to further develop yourself in this field? Do you enjoy taking responsibility and leading groups? Continue your tutoring career for a year and apply to become a head tutor for your degree or campus! As a head tutor, you will gain valuable experience in group management and overall coordination while having fun with other students. You will also receive 5 credits for being a head tutor in Helga.

Teaching methods and instruction

A student who has completed this course can

• work as part of a team and understand the importance of teamwork skills and group dynamics in guiding a group

• motivate and encourage group members

• plan and implement student events and training

• communicate and perform effectively in various group situations

• introduce new students to the beginning of their studies

• lead groups and apply their leadership skills in overall management.

Training organized by Helga, tutor team meetings, practical peer guidance, small group activities, degree information sessions as needed, learning diary (report).

At the end of the Head Tutoring period, each Head Tutor fills out a report that determines
how many credits are awarded for the activity. Head Tutoring is worth 5 credits. The Head
Tutor report is available on Helga's website:https://helga.fi/en/materials/
The reports are sent to Helga, who checks the report and finally forwards it to Haaga-Helia,
who transfers the credits to the student's register.

Assessment methods

The course is evaluated on a Pass/Fail scale.

An approved grade requires the successful completion of the tasks included in the course. The number of credits for tutoring is linked to the number or tutoring hours completed, which are verified in the tutor pass. In addition, at the end of the course, the student will complete a self-assessment and learning journal report, in which they reflect on their own learning during the course.
