    Learning objectives
    The course enables students to gain competence and skills to analyse and manage global supply chains focusing on global logistics related to product or service procurement and delivery.
    Starting level and linkage with other courses
    This course is part of the core module of specialization in Global Markets and Trade. The Module includes three components and the the other ones are: 'International competitive strategy' and 'Frameworks and structures in global trade'.
    It is recommended that the student has successfully completed the Basic Studies.
    Contents
    A wide variety of supply chain topics are covered during the course. These include concepts such as:
    - Supply chain as an entity incl. its characteristics, supply chain as a process
    - Sourcing, procurement and purchasing
    - Physical distribution (incl. warehousing and transportation), channel decisions and reverse logistics
    - Logistics costs
    - Outsourcing, risk management, service levels

    • The student has some understanding of the role of modern supply chain management (SCM) in creating competitive advantage
    • The student knows some basic SCM concepts which will helps in communication with the internal and external stakeholders.
    • The student knows some tools to develop the sourcing and logistics functions.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3
    • The student understands the key elements of international supply chain management on theoretical level.
    • The student understands the role of modern supply chain management (SCM) in creating competitive advantage to a firm from the financial, customer service as well as ethical and environmental perspective.
    • The student knows the basic SCM concepts which will helps in communication with the internal and external stakeholders.
    • The student knows the tools to develop the sourcing and logistics functions.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    • The student fully understands the key elements of international supply chain management.
    • The student fully understands the role of modern supply chain management (SCM) in creating competitive advantage to a firm from the financial, customer service as well as ethical and environmental perspective.
    • The student skilfully masters the basic SCM concepts which will helps in communication with the internal and external stakeholders.
    • The student knows how to apply various tools to develop the sourcing and logistics functions.

    Teaching methods and instruction

    Both contact and virtual (Zoom) lessons, examination and several individual learning assignments (assignment clinics included in the schedule to support students' work with these).

    Learning material and recommended literature

    Lecture materials, articles, cases, video clips etc. material provided in Moodle or hand-outs given by the lecturer.
    Course book: “Basics of Supply Chain Management” by Jayanta Kumar Bandyopadhyay (CRC Press, 2015). This is an O’Reilly database e-book. Moodle course environment includes instructions of how to access this book.

    The module uses real-life cases, simulations game and potentially company visitors to lessons.

    Exam dates and re-exam possibilities

    Examination which will consist of 20 multiple choice questions of which one must get 8 correct (40 % minimum = grade 1 level) in order to pass. All course materials are allowed during the examination. All participants are entitled to 3 takes in this exam: exam + 2 re-takes. Highest result is considered in final grading. Result is converted to a HH grade (0-5) in final course assessment. Exam has 20 % weight in final course grading.

    The course is taught in English, can be attended by international students and all assignments are related to the internationalization efforts of a company. The course is international by definition.

    Learning assignments

    Two larger learning assignments graded with HH 0-5 grading: Assignment 1: “SCM magazine article or presentation” Assignment 2: “SCM process of toy manufacturer Lego portrayed as process” Both the assignments have 40 % weight on student's course grade. Six smaller compulsory weekly assignments which are evaluated with "Passed"/Failed" grading.

    Content scheduling

    Classes held on 1st period of fall 2022 semester. Tuesday classes' focus and content is lecture / presentation oriented. Thursday classes' emphasis is on various course assignments go-through by teacher, but these sessions also serve as consultation clinics in which students can discuss their work with teacher.

    Assessment criteria

    The assignment for self-assessment of learning is completed using an online form before the end of the course. In addition to self-assessment of learning, the assignment doubles as course feedback.
