    Learning objectives
    The aim of the study unit is to equip students’ competences and skills to operate successfully in a multicultural environment. Upon successful completion of the course, the student is able to
    • Understand and describe elements cultural diversity and cross-cultural communication in a global professional environment
    • Apply theoretical knowledge of cultural theories to micro and macro level activities in different fields of business (marketing, communication, sales, HR, leadership, entrepreneurship and strategy)
    • Recognise and address the interests and needs of multicultural stakeholder groups such as employees and customers
    • Apply problem identification, analysis and solving in real-life cases in business world
    • Manage and understand different businesses and processes that involves multicultural parties.
    Contents
    1. Cultural diversity and values. Types and elements of culture. Hofstede cultural dimensions.
    2. Cross-cultural communication. Barrier and blocks. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Cultural shock.
    3. Understanding Business cultures around the World. Cross-cultural communication importance on macro and micro level. Understanding of client needs and diverse market. Challenges in cross-cultural communication. Solutions & Tips. Advantages of diversity. Concept of Time.
    4. The concept and types of organisational culture. Impact of diversity in organisations. Company culture: how it begins, why does it matter, types of organisational culture. Edgar Schein model as an analysis tool in leadership.
    5. Intercultural Management. Edward T. Hall model - cultural iceberg. Cross-cultural misunderstandings. Conflict spiral. Conflict management and avoidance. Humor in multicultural workplaces and its benefits. Multiculturality awareness.
    Assessment criteria
    Assessment criteria - grade 1
    Knowledge: Students knows the key concepts within the course’s scope, but is yet to develop the general view and the big picture of the subject matter.
    Skills: Student can complete given tasks and assignments with assistance but needs to develop applying knowledge.
    Competence: Students are able to demonstrate some ability to perform skills and have basic knowledge, but they have difficulty to manage without assistance
    Assessment criteria - grade 3
    Knowledge: Student knows the key concepts well and can explain how the theories and models function and the tools are used. They have a general view of the subject matter.
    Skills: Students can complete given tasks and assignments independently. They are able to apply knowledge in hands-on business-related situations. Students can critique their own practice and identify ways to improve.
    Competence: Students are able to demonstrate sufficient ability to perform skills and have basic to good knowledge. They can perform independently, but they have some challenges in passing on their skills and knowledge to others. The students have an interest in professional development.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    Knowledge: Students have a strong command of the key and related concepts. They can critically evaluate theories, models and tools. The students can demonstrate explicit knowledge of the subject matter, and how it relates to other disciplines.
    Skills: Students apply knowledge in demanding business-related situations. They can prioritize and critically select tools and methods for solving complex problems in the subject matter.
    Competence: The students execute skills with natural proficiency and they have detailed and explicit knowledge. They can perform independently and they are also able and actively willing to help others develop and pass on their skills. Students have an attitude of continuous professional development.
