    Learning objectives
    After completing the course, the student:
    - knows the basic technologies of data and IP networks
    - knows the most important protocols used in data networks
    - understand local network operation and implementation methods
    - understand the operation of the networking devices
    - knows the basic configurations of routers and switches
    - understand the IP networking basics
    Starting level and linkage with other courses
    It is recommended that the student has completed the course Introduction to ICT Infrastructure and Cloud Services (ICI001IT1AE) or has similar knowledge and skills.

    The course is based on Cisco Networking Academy's course "Introduction to Networks" and related materials and exercises.
    In order to complete the course, the student creates his own user ID in the Cisco Networking Academy's NetSpace learning environment (www.netacad.com).
    Assessment criteria
    Assessment criteria - grade 1
    The student knows partially the basic concepts of information networks, understands the core points of the architecture of information networks and the main features of protocols.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3
    The student knows the basic concepts of information networks, the core points of the architecture of information networks and the protocols used in information networks. The student manages the basic configuration of the switch and router.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    The student knows very well the basic concepts of information networks, the core points of the architecture of information networks and the protocols used in information networks. The student has a good command of the switch and router configuration.

    Exam dates and re-exam possibilities

    The course has two midterm exams, which are held in Pasila during the course's teaching hours as follows:
    1st midterm exam: in the last week of the first semester (the 8th teaching week of the course)
    2nd midterm exam: in the last week of the course (16th teaching week of the course)

    There may be changes in the timings of the mid-term exams, and we try to inform the course participants well before the time of the exam.

    There will be two re-exams of the course in Pasila. The dates of re-exams will be announced on the Moodle pages of the course, after the 2nd mid-term exam of the course.
