    Learning objectives
    The course aims at providing the basic knowledge of the R software and of the R studio IDE. A second objective is to teach students how to use R with the aim of cleaning and exploring different types of datasets. Overall, this shall form the basic knowledge for an empirical approach to data analysis.
    Starting level and linkage with other courses
    No specific prerequisite is required. Before the start of the course you shall install two pieces of software: 1) R, the actual programming language (https://cran.r-project.org) and 2) RStudio, an excellent IDE for working with R (https://www.rstudio.com). You must install R before using RStudio.

    1) Introduction to the R software and to R studio
    2) Data types and data structures in R
    3) Basic programming with R
    4) Working with data: the tidyverse library
    5) Working with official EU data: the eurostat library
    6) Plotting: the ggplot2 library

    Teaching methods and instruction

    This is a 1 ects course taught by a visitor professor from Haaga-Helia's partner Universite Cote D’azur . The course contains three contact sessions during one week in April: Mon 17.4, Wed 19.4, and Fri 21.4.

    R is one of the most popular and complete statistical software for data analysis. Being an open-source software is what makes R a widely-used program among academic institutions, international organizations and research centers. In this intensive course you will learn the fundamental steps of importing, cleaning and elaborating different types of data sources.
