2) writing a thesis topic description based on a challenge presented by a possible thesis commissioner
3) planning a possible research design for a master’s thesis
4) the thesis process
Implementation methods, Demonstration and Work&Study
The course consists of contact classes and individual assignments. The course is completely online or virtual.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL)
If you have acquired the required competence in previous work tasks, recreational activities or on another course, you can show your competence via a demonstration. The demonstration must be agreed with the course teacher. More information and instructions for recognising and validating prior learning (RPL) are available at https://www.haaga-helia.fi/en/recognition-learning Look at "Instructions to students (master)"
Learning materials
Depending on the implementation research articles, books, lectures and video, etc.
Intro
After this course, you will have your thesis topic accepted and thesis advisor assigned. You will be all set to begin working on your master’s thesis.

Assessment criteria - grade 3
In addition to the skills and competences mentioned for Grade 1, the student
demonstrates an understanding of how to formulate a thesis topic description based on practical company and/or societal challenges. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge on research methods, data collection and analysis as well as research ethics in the creation of a thesis topic proposal and in the research design of his/her master’s thesis. The student knows the thesis process and can apply it in his/her own master’s thesis project.
Assessment criteria - grade 5
In addition to the skills and competences mentioned for Grades 1 and 3, the student is proficient in applying his/her knowledge on research methods, data collection and analysis as well as research ethics in the creation of a thesis topic proposal and in the research design of his/her master’s thesis. The student knows thoroughly the thesis process and can apply it well in his/her own master’s thesis project.
