Teaching methods and instruction

The course implementation is based on three learning themes: coaching leadership, co-management and conflict management. The students explore these themes with the help of lectures, collective learning activities, discussions and individual studies. The aim of the course is to deepen one's knowledge of leadership and encourage analytical thinking, personal reflection and solution-focused mindset (design of practices) through the above-mentioned learning themes.

The implementation includes both contact and online clinics, where students share and analyze their own experiences, cases and problems related to the course contents. The advisors provide introductory lectures, guidance as well as assignments to support learning.

Prior or current work experience in managerial position is not required. The course is beneficial for all students who want to learn more of the learning themes and leadership.

The learning themes/topics and equivalent assignments address day-to-day challenges and practices in organizations. Students can apply and implement learned principles and practices in their organizations. Also additional expertise may be provided (e.g. in form of visitor lectures).

The student explores and cultivates their professional roles and leadership skills based on key learning themes. The course comprises co-creative clinics featuring lectures on these themes and practical group exercises. The student becomes acquainted with the conceptual framework and applies this knowledge in analyzing issues and developing solutions within a work-related context.

A managerial position is not required: all master-level students who want to study the learning themes and expand their leadership competence are welcome.

Leadership competence belongs to everyone and it is a key resource that promotes community spirit, well-being, and performance.

What is leadership competence? How can it be supported and developed at the individual, team, and organizational levels? How can coaching leadership be applied for the benefit of the work community? What guiding principles and practices does co-management offer from a leadership perspective? Where do conflicts arise, how should they be addressed, and how can the lessons learned from them be used to develop the work community?

If these questions interest you, this course is for you.

This course unit is part of the master's degree curriculum. Completion of the course requires master's study entitlement.

When the implementation type of the course is CONTACT, ONLINE or BLENDED it is required that the student is present during those teaching hours that are marked in the study schedule. If you are absent more than 25 %, your grade will be lowered by one. If you are absent more than 50 %, the course is failed.

The student demonstrates satisfactory competence in relation to the course learning objectives. The student identifies some of the theories, perspectives and concepts presented in the course. The student weakly identifies their implications for practice.
