Creative Solutions in Marketing and Communications is a course which is focused on learning by doing. The course is based on authentic co-operation with a client. The student group will work hands-on with a tailor-made assignment which aims at developing creative solutions for the commissioning organization. The students will apply their knowledge in the field of marketing and communication and learn more about customer insight as well as the topics in question. In addition, each student will hone his/her competence in collaboration and professional presentation.
The course is implemented as a project. The students work in project teams according to the client brief and team assignments. Supporting lectures, workshops and team meetings will be arranged throughout the course.
Learning objectives are as follows: Upon successful completion of the course, the student
- learns to apply marketing and communications knowledge into practice with a help of a client project or assignment which concentrates on creating innovative solutions for the commissioning party.
- learns to act and work professionally in a project team.
- understands the importance of customer understanding and orientation.
The materials will be based on the project in question.
The course is based on collaboration with a client.

No exam (unless learning and the project in question could benefit from it. This will be informed in more detail at the kick-off of the project).

Students with diverse backgrounds, representing various nationalities are warmly welcome. The project itself might also incorporate multicultural topics and issues (all this will depend on the assignment).

The course spans over approximately 11 - 12 weeks during the both study periods in spring 2024. The date of the kick-off meeting will be informed to all students who have enrolled to the course. The sessions will follow the time table of the course and the more detailed schedule will be introduced at the kick-off.
If a student has acquired sufficient competence in regard to the learning objectives, recognition of prior learning (RPL) is possible. More information about RPL on the website of Haaga-Helia (section for students). RPL should also be negotiated with the advisors of the course.

Student can collect and share relevant materials and participate on group discussions.
Student is able to present fluently and comprehensively the results of the project and provide grounds for the solutions and development ideas for the target organization in a consistent way.
